Ross Clarke-Jones and Storm Surfers push Shipsterns

Ross Clarke Jones surfs Shipsterns in really heavy conditions and has a nasty wipeout. Shipsterns is such a heavy wave and it looks pretty stormy in the pictures. I think its safe to say RCJ is just a little crazy.
The action started last Wednesday. Having spent a couple of months shooting the “Storm Surfers” documentary for Discovery Channel, Ross Clarke-Jones was taking a breather in Germany when Swellnet forecaster Ben Matson sent an advisory email concerning a large Tasmanian swell expected in seven days time. The swell was given the green light the following Friday, flights were scrambled and jet skis freighted. Wednesday morning dawned frigid in Hobart with snow reported down to sea level, several highways were closed and the wind chill clocked in at around minus ten. A vigorous cold front was tracking towards the coast, but the Storm Surfers team were already launching dock-side before dawn, preparing to race the storm at Shipsterns. Strong winds created mutant lumps across huge lines of raw Southern Ocean energy, but the winds occasionally veered cross-offshore at times, creating a menacing bowl that claimed Ross on his second wave - resulting in a dash back to hospital. The spectacular vision was recorded by the Storm Surfers team, and with production almost complete, a launch date has been tenatively set towards the end of the year.
